Photographer Linnea Ronström's book debut is a tribute to old-time recipes. The recipes from Grandma Anna's 85-year life are now preserved in a book with extraordinary feeling. The recipes in the book are those that she herself has baked since childhood, mixed with those that have been added over the years from neighbors and acquaintances. Pictures of cakes with well-used cutting boards and recipes are mixed with beautiful nature images from the surroundings. She has managed to capture the feeling of Grandma and Gotland, of being in the countryside.
The old housewife's knowledge and her cakes are a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved. The Gotland baking tradition is becoming obsolete and today it is rare to find homemade cakes. People seem to have forgotten how easy it is to bake from scratch and how many additives there actually are in factory-baked cakes. Of course, we must not forget how much better homemade cakes are.
